The English graduate degree program prepares recent graduates and working professionals for careers in research, professional writing, editing, and secondary and higher education. Our program’s diverse courses in literature and writing afford students broad cultural learning, dynamic research instruction, and job-transferable writing and media-editing skills. A master’s degree in English provides graduates credentials to teach in higher education, while many recent students have pursued PhDs at prestigious programs across the US such as Vanderbilt, California Riverside, Indiana, Washington, UMass, and Purdue. Our Technical Writing Certificate gives students credentials to pursue writing and editing jobs in a variety of industries in Huntsville’s technology and defense communities and beyond. Eighty-percent of our students in the Technical Writing Certificate program are employed either before they leave or immediately after completing their degrees. Our programs with teacher certification and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) training allow current and aspirant educators the opportunity to seek different jobs and better pay in secondary education.
