Graduate Admissions FAQs How can I find out the status of my application? Students may keep track of their application status through their Charger Status account. By clicking on the submitted application from their "My Account" page, they can view their missing supplemental items and their admissions decision. How do I access a Academic Catalog? Visit catalog.uah.edu for the current Academic Catalog (and archive of past catalogs). How do I access an application for admission? Visit our application page for instructions on how to access the online application for admission through Charger Status and to view how to complete the graduate admissions process. How do I add a master's program to my Ph.D. program? Current PhD students will need to complete a new application for admission through Charger Status for the master's program they wish to add. Contact Graduate Admissions to receive a fee waiver code that discounts the application fee. How long does it take to process my application? Your application packet will be forwarded to the department of your academic program for review only after all required supplemental items have been received (excluding financial documents for international students). Departments will generally make an admission recommendation to Graduate Admissions within 2-3 weeks. You will be notified via email and mail once your application decision has been processed. How much is the application fee? The current application fee for all applicants is $60.00. These fees are non-refundable. I am a non-native English speaker. May the TOEFL or IELTS be waived? If you have a bachelor's or an advanced degree from the United States, the TOEFL/IELTS score requirement will be waived. You do not need to submit a waiver request. I am an international student. Do I need health insurance? Admitted international students must purchase Health Insurance from UAH's provider. Current cost is approximately $600 and is subject to change. Family coverage may be purchased at additional cost. This insurance is available but not required for students not on F-1 or J-1 visas. I am an international student. What other admission requirements are there for me? International students must provide an original, notarized Affidavit of Financial Support Form as evidence of sufficient finances to cover fees and personal expenses while attending UAH. The completed affidavit must be submitted along with an original bank letter from you or your sponsor's bank indicating that the amount of funds in the account will cover the estimated annual cost for international graduate students. These documents are required for UAH to issue the I-20 form to International graduate students. The affidavit can be found on our International Admissions page. If your bachelor's degree was earned in a foreign country, and your transcripts are not in English or are not easily evaluated for U.S. equivalency, you may be requested to provide a course-by-course evaluation of your transcripts. If you are asked, the agency you choose must send the official evaluation directly to the UAH Office of Graduate Admissions. UAH only recognizes the three evaluation agencies listed below: World Education Services (WES) Josef Silny and Associates Lisano International Spantran If I have am a current UAH undergraduate student or a graduate of UAH, do I have to pay the application fee? Yes, but at a reduced cost of $35. Please contact Graduate Admissions for the discounted fee code. Will UAH accept my transfer credit? With permission of the department of your academic program, students may transfer up to twelve (12) semester hours of acceptable graduate credit earned in an approved institution and may count it toward a master's degree. No transferred credit may be more than ten years old at the time of a student's graduation from UAH. Such credit may be transferred with the approval of the major department if completed with a grade of B or better. What are the Language Test Requirements for non-native English speaking students? Students may take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or the IELTS (International English Language Testing System). The score requirements are listed below. TOEFL (iBT): all sub-scores ≥ 18 OR IELTS: all sub-scores ≥ 6.0 What is the UAH school code to have GRE and TOEFL scores reported to the Office of Graduate Admissions from Educational Testing Service (ETS)? The UAH school code is 1854. Tuition and Fees How many hours do I register for? Full-time registration (required for F-1 and J-1 visa holders) is 9 credit hours/semester (fall and spring). Summer full time registration is 6 hours. How much is tuition? Current graduate tuition rates and course fees can be found on the UAH Bursar site. All courses are subject to fees that vary by college. UAH reserves the right to change its fees, charges, rules and regulations at the beginning of any semester and without prior notice. Assistantship FAQs How do I qualify for a Graduate Teaching, Research, or Administrative Assistantship? Any student qualified for admission to the Graduate School is eligible to apply for a graduate assistantship. Graduate Teaching, Research, and Administrative Assistantships are awarded by individual departments and programs. Please contact departments and/or faculty directly for availability of openings in your area. Students may complete the downloadable Application for Assistantship, and submit the application directly to the department of interest. What is included in the Assistantship package? A full-time (9-12 enrolled hours) assistantship (20 hours/week) typically covers full tuition benefits, full health insurance (single person), a stipend, and associated fees. How much do assistantships pay? Graduate assistantship support is classified according to three educational levels. Financial assistance is awarded according to educational level: Level I: Pre-master's Level II: Post-master's and/or passed the Ph.D. preliminary /comprehensive Level III: Passed the Ph.D. Qualifying Examination Stipend ranges for each assistantship are set by each department or program, subject to the ranges set by the Graduate School and reviewed by the Graduate Council each spring for the following academic year. *Graduate Research and Administrative Assistantships Fall & Spring Stipend Rates: (Amounts are per semester, based on 20-hour per week assistantships) Level I = $4,500 - $12,500 Level II = $5,000 - $14,000 Level III = $6,000 - $18,500 Summer Stipend Rates:Level I = $2,700 - $8,500 Level II = $3,200 - $9,500 Level III = $3,700 - $12,500 * Students supported on a research assistantship may receive a higher stipend at the discretion of the principal investigator/faculty supervisor.
