Submission Policy
UAH Headlines is a weekly electronic news and information service for UAH faculty and staff. Information or announcements submitted for consideration will be subject to editing.

To submit an item, please send all information to by 5 PM, on Wednesday before the Monday distribution.

To receive consideration, items and events:
- Should have broad, campus-wide appeal.
- Should be open to all faculty and staff and important to the campus community.
- Must be held on the UAH campus.
- Announcements of off-campus events can be published only if there is a strong University connection.
- Under no circumstances will commercial activities be posted.

As a rule, announcements will not be repeated unless they are deemed by the Office of Marketing and Communications to be of significant importance to the campus community as to outweigh other considerations.

Battle of the Bones
Battle of the Bones, UAH's Jazz Ensemble’s fall/winter concert, will be held Tuesday, Nov. 24, at 7:30 p.m. in Roberts Recital Hall. Renowned trombonists Billy Bargetzi, Wes Funderburk, and Harry Watters will be performing with the band. Huntsville Citywide Jazz Combo, a jazz octet made up of some of the best high school jazz players Huntsville area, will open the show. Admission is $15.

UAH Hosts Turkey Trot 5K Run
Crisis Services of North Alabama 22nd annual Turkey Trot 5k Run. UAH campus start/finish line Spragins Hall 8 a.m. The Turkey Trot is a family fun run. Walkers and strollers are welcome. Tiny Tot Turkey Trot (age 5 and under) 9 a.m., no registration necessary. Awards ceremony 9:15 a.m. Packet pickup will be Nov. 24-25, from 10 a.m., to 7 p.m., at Fleet Feet in Huntsville. Packets may be picked up on race morning beginning at 6:30 a.m. More information:

ASME December Luncheon Meeting
The North Alabama Section of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers joint meeting with the UAH student section of ASME at 11:30 a.m., on Wednesday, Dec. 2, in the Von Braun Research Hall room M-50. Students will hear presentations from NASA, Boeing, and other employers on career paths in mechanical engineering. Free pizza will be provided. OMA Holiday Graduation Reception
The Office of Multicultural Affairs invites the UAH community to the Annual Holiday and Student Leadership Graduation Reception, noon, Frank Franz Hall Multipurpose Room. College of Nursing Pinning Ceremony
Dean Marsha H. Adams will give the address at the Nursing Pinning Ceremony, 3 p.m., Von Braun Center South Hall. The event welcomes newly graduated nurses into the profession. New nurses are presented with pins by UAH nursing faculty.

UAH Fall Commencement 2015
NASA Administrator Charles Bolden Jr, will give the Fall Commencement Address at 2 p.m., in the Von Braun Center (VBC) Propst Arena. Commencement events begin at 1 p.m., with the assembly of faculty in the VBC East Hall. Immediately following the ceremony a reception will be held in the East Hall. For detailed information

If the holiday gift-buying season has put a pinch on your budget, there may be relief. You may be eligible to postpone your Alabama Credit Union (ACU) consumer loan payment that's due in December. Bring a new, unwrapped gift for a needy child, or donate to Secret Meals for Hungry Children (suggested donation $35). » National Council on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) Student Symposium
Faculty and research staff working with undergraduates in research or creative projects are encouraged to inform their students about the upcoming National Council on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) Student Symposium. » Huntsville Feminist Chorus Winter Solstice Concert
The concert will be Saturday, Dec. 19, at 4:30 p.m., Flying Monkey Theatre, Lowe Mill. » 2016 Research Horizons Day Abstract Deadline Feb. 5
The Second annual Research Horizons Day Celebration will be held in conjunction with the University Honors Convocation on April 12. The purpose of the event is to highlight and celebrate the work of student researchers. Faculty and research staff who have mentored students in research or creative projects between Fall Semester 2014 and Summer Semester 2015 are asked to encourage their students to apply. Posters/Creative presentations will be judged and cash prizes will be awarded. Submit abstracts via Google Form at: Abstracts must be submitted by Feb. 5.

» Microsoft Office 2016 now on Chargerware
OIT has now added the latest version of Microsoft Office software to Chargerware. Office 2016 is the newest version for both Windows and Mac. This software may be installed on UAH-owned computers. More information is available in Chargerware at

» Flu Shots Available for UAH Faculty and Staff
Flu shots are now available at the UAH Faculty and Staff Clinic. The cost is $20, cash or check. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends a yearly flu vaccine for everyone six months or older as the first and most important step in protecting against influenza. This year’s trivalent flu vaccine contains two strains of Influenza "A" and one strain of Influenza "B." It takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body and provide protection against the flu.
