I’m quite pleased to have this opportunity to welcome you back to campus for the fall 2023 semester here at UAH. I hope you all had a refreshing — and possibly productive — break and are ready to embark on another exciting year of growth and discovery.

Now that we are all together again, I hope you are enjoying our Week of Welcome activities. Our lineup of events is designed to help you make new friends and connections as we begin the academic year.

Speaking of welcomes, I want to personally welcome Dr. Bryan Samuel, our new vice president for diversity, equity and inclusion along with the more than 30 new faculty members here to UAH. I know you are going to do incredible work, and I look forward to seeing your successes.

I have continued to be impressed by how special this university is and everything you students, faculty and staff consistently achieve. Thanks to your hard work, UAH remains in the Top 8% of Public Universities as recognized by U.S. News & World Report.

UAH made history this year by claiming the top prize for two NASA Artemis Student Challenges: the 2023 Human Exploration Rover Challenge and the 2023 Student Launch Challenge. No other university has ever won two NASA Marshall-led Artemis Challenges in the same year. The university has named this accomplishment the Earth2Sky Eagle Crown.

And this past season in athletics, the UAH men's basketball team won the regular season title and women’s softball won the Gulf South Conference Softball Championship. I look forward to another great year by our student athletes. I encourage you to get out and see an athletic contest this year.

Finally, I have no doubt that this year will be filled with more excitement, discovery and accomplishments. I can’t wait to see what you achieve next. Here’s to a great semester!

Go Chargers!
