Dr. Joiner has performed research on modulation and coding schemes for wireless mobile networks for the military. This work developed efficient soft decision decoding algorithms for nonbinary cyclic codes including Reed-Solomon codes. She also considered modulation and coding schemes that provide good error protection for Raleigh fading channels and are bandwidth efficient. Currently, she is researching adaptive rate coding schemes for direct-sequence spread-spectrum systems. She worked for Dynetics, Inc., as a Principal Engineer on Division Staff (emphasis on radar) while on sabbatical form UAH during the 2008/2009 academic year.
