UAH sponsors fifth annual Girls' Science and Engineering Day

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (October 21, 2013) - The imaginations of young girls will soar as The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) hosts the fifth annual award-winning Girls' Science and Engineering Day event on Saturday, Nov. 16.

Approximately 400 girls will attend the annual event. The cost for the half-day program is $20 for each girl and includes all workshop materials, and a snack. Register online at www.gseduah.com by Friday, Nov. 8. The event is from 9 a.m., to 12:30 p.m., at the Shelby Center for Science and Technology on the UAH campus. The event is sponsored by the Women's Leadership Council.

Madison County girls in the third through fifth grades interested in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM subjects) will take center stage as they participate in workshops, conduct experiments and enjoy other activities such as DNA extractions, robotics and missile simulators.

Earlier this year, The University of Alabama in Huntsville Women's Leadership Council was the recipient of the 2013 Civic/Community STEM Award. Additionally, Mayor Tommy Battle and the Huntsville City Council presented the Women's Leadership Council with a Resolution of Appreciation for the establishment and success of Girls Science and Engineering Day.
