David Berkowitz has been named associate dean of UAH's business graduate programs

HUNTSVILLE, Ala (December 5, 2011) - David Berkowitz has been named associate dean of Graduate and Sponsored Programs in The University of Alabama in Huntsville's College of Business Administration.

Dr. Berkowitz previously served as professor of Marketing and Management, and director of the Integrated Enterprise Laboratory in the College of Business Administration (CBA). He began his new duties on Dec. 1.

"Our graduate programs are growing and our sponsored program activity is among the highest for business colleges nationwide. We want to keep the strong momentum going, and Dave will be integral to that effort," said Dr. Caron St. John, dean of the College of Business Administration. "Dave will be responsible for working with Jennifer Pettitt, marketing CBA graduate and certificate programs locally and nationally, working with faculty to ensure relevant and rigorous graduate curricula, building a high performance culture within our graduate programs."

Pettitt is director of graduate programs and undergraduate advising in the CBA. She also teaches marketing courses in the college.

Additionally, Dr. Berkowitz will oversee the college's efforts to grow sponsored and outreach programs that help advance opportunities for UAHuntsville graduate students and faculty. He will also coordinate relationships with the Center for Management and Economic Research, and the Center for the Management of Science and Technology (CMOST), and other centers on campus and serve as CBA's representative on the Research Council and with the Graduate School. Dr. Berkowitz's leadership role will also assist St. John with key strategic priorities tied to the Huntsville community, including those related to entrepreneurship/technology commercialization and the organizations on Redstone Arsenal.

Berkowitz began his tenure at UAHuntsville in 1997 as assistant professor in the CBA. Additional academic promotions and appointments at UAHuntsville include associate professor in 2002; director of CMOST (2003); Department Chair of Management, Marketing and Management Science (2007); professor of Marketing and Management (2008); academic director of the Innovation and Commercialization Laboratory (2009); and director of the Integrated Enterprise Laboratory (2009).

Berkowitz earned his undergraduate degree in accounting from Rutgers University at Camden, an MBA in marketing from The University of Texas at Austin, and a Ph.D., in marketing from The University of Alabama.
