WELCOME TO UAH!

Congratulations on your admission to UAH's Graduate School! Here you'll find some resources to help prepare you for what's next.

Next Steps for Graduate Students

Now that you’re admitted, it’s time to get started on your next steps! Check out the links to see what should be top-of-mind as you prepare to join us as a new graduate student, and then view the full checklist below.

New Graduate Student Checklist

Use this checklist to guide you as you prepare for your first semester at UAH!

*Upon admission, we recommend prioritizing these checklist items first.

Within 30 Days of Being Admitted

  • Check that your contact information, academic program, and application term are correct on your admission letter. If changes are needed, contact the Office of Admissions at 256.824.2773 or admissions@uah.edu

  • Set Up Multi-Factor Authentication

Multi-factor authentication is required for all UAH students to access your online services, including your UAH email and student account. UAH utilizes two services for multi-factor authentication: Duo and Google 2-Step Verification. You will need to set up both services within 30 days of being admitted to avoid getting locked out of your student accounts. For more information and detailed instructions, visit the Office of Information of Technology's website.

Set Up You MyUAH Account and Access Your UAH Email

Visit our Getting Started resource guide for instructions on creating your UAH password and accessing your student accounts. Reference your acceptance email to view your A# and Charger ID. As a UAH student, you will use your myUAH account by visiting my.uah.edu to access campus information, accept or decline financial aid, register for classes, view your grades, see your academic transcript, and pay your bill.

Questions about the differences between your Charger Status and myUAH accounts? Learn more on the Charger Status vs myUAH webpage.

If an emergency arises that impacts you as an individual, the university will refer to your emergency contact information. It is important to enter a parent or family member's contact information under "Personal Information" in your my.uah.edu account.

Class Registration

  • Provisionally Admitted Students

If you were admitted provisionally, you must submit an official final college transcript confirming the completion of your bachelor’s degree. If your degree confirmation is not received after the start of your first term, an enrollment hold will be placed on your student account preventing class registration for your second term. Please note, students with a provisional admissions status are not eligible for federal financial aid.

    International Students

Official transcripts must be submitted to the Office of Admissions and a copy of your visa must be submitted to International Student and Scholar Services before you can register for classes. Please note, full-time registration is required each semester for all F-1 and J-1 visa holders.

  • Contact your program coordinator to be directed to your academic advisor. Your advisor will assist you with class selection and establish your program of study.

  • View our class registration page for instructions on how to complete class registration using schedule planner and to reference the registration dates for your term of entry. You may also view the academic calendar to learn more about important dates and deadlines.

Full-time registration is nine credit hours each fall and spring semester and six credit hours each summer semester.

  • The Office of International Services will be assisting you with instructions on how to request an I-20 in order to obtain an F-1 visa to travel to UAH to begin your studies. Please make sure to set up your UAH email account using the instructions and email address provided to you, as this is the email address that will be used to send your next steps for requesting an I-20.

  • Before you can enroll in your classes, you must submit proof of your Visa to isss@uah.edu.

  • You are required to attend a mandatory immigration orientation hosted by the Office of International Student Services. They will be in touch with the date, time, and more details.
