"I am incredibly thankful to UAH as a whole and, in particular, the History department for helping tremendously throughout my four years here at UAH. Coming to college, I knew that I wanted to major in history, and the UAH History Department provided me with many learning opportunities that I never would have dreamed of. Dr. Molly Johnson's Nazi Germany and the Holocaust class allowed me to study local history in a new light and even paved the way for me to present my work at a regional conference. With the help of Dr. Andrei Gandila and Dr. Christine Sears, I was able to incorporate local primary sources that I handled during my internship into my research seminar. Studying Southern history with Dr. John Mohr was extremely influential in determining what path I wanted to pursue after graduation. In the fall, I will be attending Florida State University focusing on American history with an eye toward the U.S. South. I was awarded the Johnsen Fellowship in American History, which covers full tuition, and I will be partnered with a faculty member as a Graduate Assistant. None of this would have been possible without the support and encouragement of the History faculty, and I am excited to see where this opportunity takes me." - Jacob Winton, '23 History Photo Credit Jacob Winton, '23 History
