BFA Graphic Design Major Alex Clark recently interned at UAH Lowe Mill A&E Project Space, a brand-new event space for students and faculty. The internship experience was graciously discussed, along with how a College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences education boosted Alex’s success, in Alex’s own words below.

About the Internship:

During my internship at the Lowe Mill A&E Project Space, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the hands-on experience in graphic design, event planning, and gallery curating. Being part of the community has allowed me to refine my creative skills while learning the distinctions of engaging with audiences through visual art and event experiences. Collaborating with artists and other team members has been inspiring, and the internship has deepened my appreciation for the work that goes into curating memorable exhibitions and organizing events that promote a love for the arts.

How my CAHS education helped:

My graphic design degree has been important in my internship at the Lowe Mill A&E Project Space, equipping me with the foundational skills to create compelling visuals and effectively communicate ideas. This background has allowed me to confidently design promotional materials that align with the aesthetic and goals of each event, exhibit, and that fit within the UAH Brand Guidelines. Additionally, my training in design principles has proven valuable in planning layouts for exhibitions and understanding how to guide viewers’ experiences within a space. The degree has enriched my approach to curating, helping me balance visual appeal with functionality across all aspects of the internship.

About the Space

The Lowe Mill A&E Studio is a multi-use studio hosting classes, speakers, events, and exhibitions. The studio space also hosts current students as artists in residence, giving them a public space to create and sell their artwork.

The space is open Wednesday-Friday from 11 am-4 pm and Saturday from 12-5 pm.
