Shortly after Bob Lyon’s announced retirement in April from the position of Vice President for University Advancement, I announced that I would serve as Interim Vice President for University Advancement until a permanent Vice President is appointed following a search process. Since that time, I have decided to step out of that role in order to devote more time to planning the future of Executive Plaza. Effective July 2, 2018, Mallie Hale will serve as Interim Vice President for University Advancement.

Mallie joined us about a year and a half ago as Senior Director of Alumni Relations. Prior to her appointment at UAH, Mallie served as Major Gifts Officer for three years in the School of Medicine’s Department of Medicine at The University of Alabama at Birmingham where she was part of a team that raised nearly $15 million in her last fiscal year at UAB and was responsible for securing the largest commitment ever for the Tinsley Harrison Internal Medicine Residence Program. Before her time at UAB, Mallie held the position of Director of Children’s Ministry at First United Methodist Church in Decatur, Alabama and, prior to that, Assistant Director of Alumni Affairs at Birmingham-Southern College.

Since arriving at UAH, Mallie has worked to establish new alumni chapters, with several more in the pipeline, partnered with the Office of Career Services to launch a new mentoring program that aligns student interests with alumni expertise, enhanced Alumni Relations’ online and social media presence, and recruited Alumni Ambassadors to aid in student recruitment efforts. Mallie received the BS in Psychology from Birmingham-Southern College and the MA in Applied Sociology from UAB.

Please join me in welcoming Mallie to her new and expanded role at UAH.

Thanks,

Dr. Bob Altenkirch
UAH President
