In preparation for the voyage, the agency and its international partners have sent orbiters, landers, and rovers, dramatically increasing our knowledge about Mars and paving the way for human explorers. In addition, a new large NASA rocket is being completed which could launch the Mars crew transfer vehicle and lander; also, astronauts are living on the International Space Station for long periods equivalent to a trip to Mars. America now has extensive space exploration experience and capability and these assets can be brought together to finish the human journey to Mars.
