Learn more about our annual competition:
What is a 3MT?
The Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) is an academic competition developed by The University of Queensland (UQ), Australia for research students. Graduate students have three minutes to present a compelling oration on their thesis/dissertation and its significance. 3MT is not an exercise in trivializing or "dumbing-down" research but challenges students to consolidate their ideas and research discoveries so they can be presented concisely to a non-specialist audience. (UAH includes PhD and DNP research in the competition.)
Why Participate in 3MT?
At UAH, 3MT is part of an effort to provide students with an opportunity to develop their oral communication and presentation skills. It also provides a valuable opportunity for research students to come together, get to know one another and talk about their research in a supportive environment.
Prizes
For each category (Masters and PhD/DNP)
First Place $250.00
Second place $100.00
Third place $50.00
The overall winner will also receive an all-expenses-paid trip to represent UAH at the regional 3MT Competition held by the Council of Graduate Schools Deans at their annual spring meeting (date and time will be announced). This provides an excellent networking and professional development opportunity.
