Bob Labbe, Pop Music Historian and WLRH Radio Host, will be the final speaker in the series.
Join the guru of the oldies himself, Bob Labbe, of the radio show, Reelin' in the Years. Labbe will speak about the history of pop music from 1950-1990, the era of the 45-rpm record. Labbe has more than 20,000 45-rpm records in his personal collection, which he uses in his travels through four decades of pop music, intertwined with pieces of pop music trivia and interviews with some of the biggest names in pop music history.
Bob attended Elkins Institute in Nashville and Columbia School of Broadcasting. As the TV sports anchor at WAAY, Channel 31, from 1979-91, he was voted No. 1 sports personality in the local market several times. Labbe's career includes stints at WAHR-FM, WAAYAM, WVOV AM, The Huntsville Times, the City of Madison, SportsMed, several Army and NASA contracts at Redstone, and the Madison Weekly News. Labbe can still be seen on TV as the spokesman for a local tire company, and hosting a weekly four-hour live radio show on WLRH. Labbe is best remembered as a member of the Huntsville media over the past four decades and for his numerous reporting awards in TV, radio and newspapers.
