The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) will hold an open house to kick off the fall 2023 semester on Aug. 11 from 10 a.m. to noon in the lobby of Wilson Hall on the UAH campus. OLLI is celebrating the 30th year of lifelong learning programs at UAH, a part of the University of Alabama System.
Current and prospective OLLI members, family, friends and the community are invited to learn more about the group and register for the fall term, which starts Sept. 11. OLLI is open to ages 50 and up.
Guests can meet OLLI staff, instructors and members of the curriculum committee; check out the facilities, and find out more about the 60 courses on the fall schedule. New and renewing members can pick up their fall parking permit at the event. There will also be door prizes.
OLLI at UAH began in 1993 as The Academy of Lifelong Learning. The Bernard Osher Foundation asked UAH to join its network in 2005. Osher supports educational programs, arts, and integrative medicine centers. OLLI at UAH is one of 125 institutes across all 50 states.
“Being a part of the larger OLLI family is a huge thing,” says Clay Williams, OLLI at UAH program manager, “not only for the endowment from Osher, but for having the resources of other institutions like ourselves that face the same issues of trying to grow as an organization and to provide good quality service to our members.”
OLLI members enjoy staying intellectually and socially active through courses, social activities, bonus lectures, travel opportunities, MIGs (Membership Interest Groups) and more. Courses cover a wide variety of topics, including history, literature, music, foreign languages, exercise, science and philosophy.
