Rendering of second phase of Charger Village
The project timeline as of Jan. 2 for the construction of the second phase of Charger Village is as follows:
-
Permanent Closing of Charger Way
Vehicular access to the Alabama Credit Union, the Engineering Building, and the Optics Building parking lots via Charger Way will no longer be available. This closure will be permanent, allowing for the Greenway expansion.
-
Permanent Closing of Charger Way Service Road
Vehicular access to the parking lot between the Materials Science Building and Von Braun Research Hall via the service road off Charger Way will no longer be available. This closure will be permanent, allowing for the Greenway expansion.
-
Pedestrian Access to Engineering & Optics Buildings
With the closing of Charger Way, temporary pedestrian access to the Engineering Building and the Optics Building will be provided for the duration of construction.
-
Partial Closing of Greenway (South Side)
The area immediately south of the arbored circle/pavilion will be closed for the duration of the Greenway expansion, which should be complete by April 1. Pedestrian traffic at this location will be rerouted via a new sidewalk with accessible ramps and street crossings.
-
Charger Village Construction Site
The field south of Charger Village will be fenced from the Greenway to John Wright Drive for the duration of construction.
The current construction plan calls for the second phase of Charger Village to be completed by June 2018.
