At The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH), there is no shortage of experiential, hands-on learning opportunities across all disciplines, including the College of Business Marketing program. UAH is a part of The University of Alabama System.
This past semester, students in Dr. Karen Anne Wallach’s Digital Marketing course had the opportunity to gain real-world experience by partnering with Hville Blast, a local digital content company. Throughout the semester, students were able to create content for Hville Blast in the hopes of having their work featured.
“I really appreciated being able to offer Hville Blast the perspective of someone actually consuming their content,” said senior Marketing Major, Leslie Gonzalez Tapia.
While each group submitted their content, it was ultimately up to the Hville Blast team to decide what content was posted. This created a friendly competition within the class and motivated them to create quality, professional content.
“We made two reels and we ultimately ended up ‘winning’ in the competition with our other classmates,” said Fall 2024 graduate, Maggie Gant.
During the early stages of the class, students spent time researching the Hville Blast brand to better create content that would blend seamlessly into the company’s feed. After that, groups wrote proposals detailing their projects. Eventually, the groups took their outlines and presented them to the Hville Blast team.
Students learned about brand research, website design, search engine optimization (SEO), how to cater their skills to fit a future client’s needs and more.
“It was a great way to get real-world experience without it actually being your job,” said senior Fall 2024 graduate, Peyton Kingsbury. “Not a lot of people get this type of experience before graduating, so to be able to get it in a class is great.”
For these students, this course was one of the most beneficial learning experiences during their time as undergraduate students.
