The UAH "School of Nursing" was established by act of the Alabama Legislature in 1971. Thirty-six students were graduated in 1974. That same year the School of Nursing baccalaureate program was granted initial accreditation by the National League for Nursing. The School was designated a College of Nursing in 1987. We invite alumni, former faculty, staff and friends of the College of Nursing to celebrate with us during our Golden Anniversary Series. The College of Nursing will host a series of community events to celebrate our 50-year legacy of educating and inspiring individuals to become visionary leaders in nursing who act with integrity, discover through scientific methods, and champion strategies to promote health equity in Alabama, the nation, and global communities. Alumni from each decade will host events from August 2024 through March 2025. These events will recognize and celebrate graduates and events of a specific decade. Examples of events being planned are family outings such as a picnic or attendance at a UAH sporting event. Another option is a luncheon at the College of Nursing in conjunction with a regular college program. Decade Captains are currently planning the events. The culmination of the Golden Anniversary Series is a dinner/dance Celebration Gala on April 5, 2025, at the Jackson Center in Huntsville, Alabama. This event will bring together alumni, current students, former and current faculty and staff, and community leaders for a celebration and recognition of the impact of 50 years of the UAH College of Nursing. Donations from sponsors will be designated for updating and expanding technology used in the education of nurses for tomorrow. In particular, donations will support and enhance the simulation laboratory. It is not too early to make plans for participating in the various events. Mark your calendar for the Celebration Gala!
