COGR Considerations for a Federal Government Shutdown

COGR has prepared a list of items research institutions should consider in the event of a federal government shutdown to manage federally sponsored projects. This is not official guidance, but rather an accumulation of past shutdown experiences, along with the information and guidance received to date. This list will be updated as more information is available.

Dr. Robert Lindquist, Vice President for Research and Economic Development

We are very proud of our research record and our extremely productive faculty, research staff, and students, which have placed UAH as one of the top public doctoral-granting universities in the nation.

Our research endeavors vary greatly according to discipline and research center interest. Today, NASA and the Department of Defense remain our largest research sponsors. UAH consistently ranks among the top universities with respect to both NASA and DoD research expenditures as reported by the National Science Foundation. Backed by the UAH Strategic Plan, our faculty and staff are actively growing strong relationships with the Department of Energy, NIH, NOAA/NWS, and NSF.

We are also positioned as the anchor tenant in Cummings Research Park, the second-largest corporate Research and Technology park in the U.S. Our research expenditures continue to grow while contributing to the academic mission, to scientific literature, and to economic development in our community and across the nation. During the past five years, UAH researchers have performed over $639 million in contracts and grants, the university has awarded over 3,000 graduate degrees, and created almost $700K in licenses and royalty fees from an intellectual property portfolio of 187 issued patents. These results have been possible because of the efforts of our faculty, staff, and students in the UAH colleges and research centers, and the successful partnerships that they have established across the U.S. and around the world.

We welcome you to the UAH research enterprise and I and my staff look forward to hearing from you. Whether you are a current or potential UAH employee, student, research partner, or stakeholder, please do not hesitate to contact us with research related questions and comments.
