Mark Cowherd has been appointed Interim Associate Vice President for Facilities and Operations at The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH). Cowherd began his new duties on Friday, June 24.
"I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Cowherd as Interim Associate Vice President for Facilities and Operations," said Ray Pinner, UAH Senior
Vice President for Finance and Administration. "Mark has served at UAH as the Executive Director of Facilities since 2005. Prior to that, he served as the
Director of Mechanical and Electrical Maintenance for five years."
"As Executive Director of Facilities for over ten years, Mark has proven his abilities to effectively manage construction projects and supervise employees
in multiple departments," Pinner added. "His years of experience will enable him to lead Facilities and Operations in providing an environment which is
safe, comfortable, aesthetically pleasing and supports the teaching, learning and public service functions of UAH.

Cowherd will direct the planning, designing, development, construction, maintenance, and renovation of physical facilities. He will also have
responsibility for the UAH Office of Environmental Health and Safety, the Grounds Management Department, Fleet Services and Custodial Services.
Cowherd graduated Magna Cum Laude from Athens State University with a B.S. in Business Management and a B.S. in Management of Technology. He is a member of
the Association of Energy Engineers, where he was awarded the Region II Energy Innovator of the Year in 2015 for the installation of two 200-ton heat
machines. The installation saves UAH over $250,000 per year. Additionally, he was instrumental in UAH being awarded the Air Pollution Control Award in 2015
by the City of Huntsville.
