With great appreciation for his leadership and recognition of his accomplishments, I congratulate Dr. David Berkowitz on his anticipated retirement from The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) effective January 1, 2021.  Dr. Berkowitz has given twenty-five years of service in multiple roles here at UAH.  He joined the faculty of the College of Business in 1996; served as the Chair of the Department of Management, Marketing, and Management Science from 2007-2009; served as the Director of the Center for the Management of Science and Technology from 2003-2007; served as the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies from 2011-2013; and served as the Dean of the Graduate School since 2013 and Director of International Services since 2016.

Over the years, Dr. Berkowitz has helped to maintain the standards of academic excellence in the Department of Management, Marketing, and Information Systems, the College of Business, The University of Alabama in Huntsville, and the campus community.

With Dr. Berkowitz’s departure, the Graduate School and International Services will undergo organizational modifications.  I am pleased to announce that Dr. Sean Lane, Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, has agreed to serve as Acting Associate Provost for the Graduate School, International Services, and Academic Integrity. Dr. Lane’s background as a former Associate Dean (and briefly, as Acting Dean) of the Graduate School at Louisiana State University will equip him to capably lead the Graduate School and International Services during its reorganization and transition period before a permanent Associate Provost is hired.

Christine W. Curtis
Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs
