Staff Senate Announcements: January 20 Meeting

 

Academic Affairs

  • The updated Spring 2021 calendar is published on the website
    • Classes began on the 13th
  • New staff hires in the College of Business:
    • Chardonnay Copeland - Undergraduate Advisor
    • Dale Tegantvoort - Undergraduate Advisor
    • Alicia Wilkerson - Resource Manager
    • Mona Foroughi - Career and Internship Advisor
  • New staff hires in the Registrar’s Office
    • Ashley Schenck - Student Services Associate
    • Aaliyah Humphrey - Records Coordinator
  • New staff hire in SSC:  Julia Bartle -  Tutor Coordinator
  • Changes in the Graduate School:  David Berkowitz retired and Sean Lane is the interim dean.  Kim Gray and Linda Clugstone in graduate admissions have been moved under Admissions.  New staff will need to be hired to support graduate students, but in the meantime, a graduate student (GTA) is being hired to help current students.

Advancement/University President’s Office/ODEI/Athletics

  • Alumni's upcoming Charger Chat is a College of Education update with Dr. Quick. It is January 26 at noon, and the registration info can be found on the events calendar or our alumni FB page.
  • Also, Alumni of Achievement nominations are open. The Survey Monkey link is: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2021AoANom
  • Black History Month- Keep an eye out for announcements soon.

Facilities and Operations

  • BEV Center Cooling Tower Replacement- Complete.
  • Partial campus water outage- Several water main line valve replacements are complete by the campus plumbing department.
  • CTC Kitchen floor drain upgrade- All new drainage has been install and tested. Project is complete.
  • CTC domestic water line re pipe- Project complete
  • Campus wide maintenance radio system upgrade- Project is complete and system is back online.

Finance & Administration

Research

  • The Propulsion Research Center (PRC) recently received a DoD grant to purchase some equipment to boost research in the Hypersonics (fuel research) area. 
  • The researchers at CSPAR are part of the team that is exploring the giant neutron star flare outside the Milky Way galaxy. 
  • The researchers at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering are developing glass fiber drinking monitor using EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) grants.

Student Affairs

  • Career Services (Candace Phillips):
    • Career Fair is virtual and will be held 2/2 from 10:00-4:00 on Charger Path.
    • Brittney and Chris are no longer with our team, but we have welcomed Hillary Parker and hope to have another new member in the near future.
    • FWS has moved to Sandi in Kristi's office, unless it is an HR question the Vonda Maclin is the appropriate contact. We still assist with all the job postings, but we have transitioned out of the other portion(s) of FWS.
  •  

  • Health Services (Amber McPhail):
    • We have ordered COVID vaccines but no timeframe for receiving them.
    • We have 100 free flu vaccines that we will host a free flu shot clinic:
          • "Free flu shots, no insurance needed.
          • Thursday, January 28th, 9:30am - 2pm.  SSB 112

          • Click "Schedule an Appointment"
          • Select "Free FLU vaccines 1/28/2021"
          • Select "No, I would like an appointment another day (1/28/2021)"
          • Follow instructions to register for the appointment.
          • On the day of your appointment, you will receive a text and/or email with a link to fill out the required flu vaccine consent form.  This form MUST be completed before your appointment."

 

  • UFC (Sabrina Blackwood):
    • The only thing note-worthy is that we are now requiring all faculty, staff and students to use their Charger Cards to gain access to the UFC. Barcode ID's are no longer valid.   

 

  • Student Life
    • UAH Student Marketing Mechanisms:
        • The Charger Student Newsletter is distributed every Monday to ALL student UAH email accounts.  The newsletter features the week’s upcoming events as well as other campus information (deadlines, scholarships, employment, etc).  If you have information you would like to include in Charger Student News, please complete the online formto submit information. When including graphics with your submission, PLEASE make sure they are formatted as 800px x 800 px.
        • Additionally, the University hosts an online student events calendar that features programs and activities specifically for UAH students. Registered student organizations and campus departments can submit events to be included on the calendar. TheStudent Events Calendarcan be seen here and events can be submitted through the online submission form.  The events submitted to student events calendar are used to create Student Life's weekly publication that goes into the restrooms around campus, known as the Toilet Paper or more commonly, the TP. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY TO HAVE YOUR EVENTS ADDED TO THE WEEKLY TP.
