Dr. Marsha Adams has served The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) passionately and selflessly for seven years as Dean of the College of Nursing. She will be retiring from the university at the end of July.  

Her accomplishments are numerous both at UAH and in the national Nursing arena. During her tenure at UAH, Dean Adams led the development of an up-to-date curriculum for the BSN program and initiated the Early Promotion into Nursing Program.  She stood up the UAH DNP programs for both the MS to DNP and BSN to DNP pathways. She led the development and implementation of the joint Nursing Science Ph.D. program with the University of Alabama, the first UAH Ph.D. program in a field outside of the Colleges of Science and Engineering.  Dean Adams promoted excellence and maintained the academic standards of the College of the Nursing by always encouraging the Nursing students to perform well in their studies and in their clinical experiences.  Dean Adams served the Nursing profession as President of the National League for Nursing 2013-2015, was appointed by the Secretary of Health and Human Services and served on the National Advisory Council on Nursing Education and Practice from 2016-2020, and serves on the National Children’s Advocacy Center Board of Directors 2015-2021 and as President of the Board in 2020.  Dean Adams and the UAH College of Nursing were awarded the National League for Nursing Center of Excellence for Promoting the Pedagogical Expertise of Faculty. For her dedication to Nursing and her high level of performance, she received the Alabama State Nurses Association Outstanding Nurse Administrator Academe in 2018, was inducted in the Alabama Nursing Hall of Fame in 2017, and was selected one of 70 Visionary Leaders by UAB School of Nursing in 2021.

We are proud of Dean Adams and her accomplishments and are grateful for her leadership and outstanding service. We give her our best wishes for an enjoyable retirement.
