Malcolm Rice, Chief Information Officer (CIO), will retire this summer after serving The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) for more than 37 years. Since joining UAH in 1987 as a Database Assistant, Malcolm has helped usher the Office of Information Technology (OIT) through the ever-evolving needs of the information technology landscape. Among his many accomplishments, he has been instrumental in implementing several operating systems and programs, some of which are still in use today, including VMS, Unix, Banner, and Clean Address. He has served as CIO since 2016.

Malcolm has worked tirelessly to ensure our students, faculty, and staff have the resources they need to achieve success. I am incredibly grateful for his numerous contributions through the years, and I wish him all the best in retirement. Malcolm’s last day on campus will be Friday, June 28.

I am pleased to announce that Michael (“Mike”) Turner will serve as Interim CIO while a national search is conducted to fill the position. Mike has been at UAH since 2014 and currently serves as the Director of Network Infrastructure. He has a wealth of experience and I am confident that he will serve in the best interests of our students, faculty, and staff. Please join me in welcoming Mike to his new role.
