Written by: Joyce Anderson-Maples August 15, 2016 Malcolm R. Rice was recently named Interim Chief Information Officer at UAH. Michael Mercier | UAH Malcolm R. Rice (BS, BUS '88, MS MGMT '93) has been appointed Interim Chief Information Officer at The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH). He began his duties on Aug. 1. Rice currently serves as Director, Enterprise Applications and Identity and Access in the Office of Information Technology (OIT). "Please join me in welcoming Mr. Rice to his new role here at UAH," said Dr. Christine Curtis, Provost and Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs. "He will be a dynamic leader and, with your help and support, will move OIT forward. Mr. Rice will continue to serve in this capacity, until a permanent Chief Information Officer (CIO) is hired." Dee Childs, former Associate Provost and CIO at UAH, accepted an opportunity to serve as Vice President for Information Technology at Texas A&M University. Rice has more than 25 years of direct experience in the design, implementation and support of computer applications in mainframe and personal computer environments. "UAH has always been an exciting place to work and I am pleased to have the opportunity to serve as Interim CIO. I look forward to working with university faculty, staff and students to help meet their technological needs," said Rice. Previously, Rice served the university as Academic Systems Manager and Network Applications Analyst. In addition, he was a lecturer in the UAH College of Nursing, and the College of Business Administration. In 2005, Rice was a recipient of the UAH Foundation Award for Outstanding Performance and Achievement. He served on the UAH Staff Senate from 1996 to 1998. Rice earned Bachelor of Science and Masters of Science degrees from UAH. He earned a Doctor of Law degree (J.D) from The Birmingham School of Law.
