Better Days: Exhibition by Vitus Shell Arts & Entertainment Tuesday, August 20, 2019- September 19, 2019 The event started -1864 days agoMultiday event - 31 days Wilson Hall Gallery “Better Days” an exhibition of mixed media paintings by artist Vitus Shell pose black culture as something multi-dimensional and nuanced through irony, activism, and his notion of black coolness. His large-scale unstretched canvases hung on grommets, possess the energy of a good tag on a freight train while bringing to mind the work of Emory Douglas, Sister Mary Corita Kent, and vernacular activist imagery associated with the civil rights movement. The work is relatable, filled with trendy tropes that are continually appropriated from black culture often using "mainstream" white culture as a critical foil to convey meaning. Please join us for a closing reception and artist talk on Thursday, September 19th, from 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm. Exhibit and reception free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.
