Southerners have long been fascinated with the contrasting culture and look of the Crescent City as its architecture, colonial development, and ethnic makeup contrast with that of most of the American South. This course will take you on a whirlwind tour of this most flamboyant of southern cities, concentrating on its social history and how its distinctive music, food, and public life were no accident but rather demonstrate some of the many ways people carved out new lives in the new world.
