In the letterpress studio {WIL 310}, art students will be printing from woodtype on our 1892 Chandler and Price Press. In the printshop {WIL 355}, Judith Baumann will be demonstrating the lithography process. Lithography, invented in 1796, is a process that uses limestone and a method of printing that is based on the immiscibility of oil and water. Letterpress, developed in the mid 15th century, is a process that uses movable type, composed in the bed of a printing press. Printed copies are produced by repeated direct impression of an inked, raised surface against sheets of paper. Forget YouTube--come see these old printing techniques in real life!
