As part of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), Congress designated a “Choose Respect Day” in an effort to focus attention on changing the culture around the tolerance of violence against women – specifically domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

In keeping with the University of Alabama in Huntsville’s commitment to the safety of our community, on October 16th, the Office of Title IX & Equal Opportunity will be hosting an informational outreach in the Charger Union from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm.

Specific attention will be given to date rape, date rape drugs, and date rape prevention.  While alcohol is the most prevalent date rape drug, attendees will receive free fentanyl detector strips and will be taught their proper use.

Representatives from Crisis Services of Northern Alabama, Huntsville Emergency Medical Services, Inc. (HEMSI), Huntsville Police Department, Dean of Students Office, UAH Police Department, and UAH Counseling Center have been invited to attend.
