The Complexities of Convenience

Tuesday, August 20, 2024- October 10, 2024 Multiday event - 52 days

Wilson Hall Gallery

Room 160

Joshua Newth's work explores the ubiquity of detritus, specifically the multifaceted nature of litter, its connection to our lives, and the anthropogenic result on the environment. Through separating these everyday objects from their traditional surroundings and presenting these pieces of plastic, Styrofoam, and paper as accessories to embellish the human figure, the viewer is forced to confront the omnipresent nature of these objects of waste. The resulting context creates a moment for reinterpretation and dialogue, re-establishing a sense of appreciation for the relationships we have with seemingly ordinary aspects of life and endeavoring to ennoble the unacknowledged beauty and importance of our environment.

Please join us for the closing reception and artist talk on Thursday, October 10th, from 4:30pm - 6pm in the Wilson Hall Gallery. Talk starts @ 4:30pm.

Exhibition on view through October 10th.

Gallery Hours: Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm
