Roots and Reflections

Tuesday, September 10, 2024- October 17, 2024 Multiday event - 38 days

Union Grove Gallery

Roots and Reflections is an exploration of the unique immigrant experience, one that often finds itself standing at the threshold of two remarkably distinct worlds, Iran and the US. Khademi's work dives into the delicate equilibrium of class, gender, and ethnicity within the context of the diasporic realm. Growing up in Bessemer, AL, her work portrays the challenges and subtleties of growing up in Bessemer, AL, particularly the role her family played as a "middleman minority" -  a role often filled by immigrants, transforming cigarette cartons from her family's convenience store into ornamental an transitional elements reminiscent of Iranian architecture such as ceramic tiles.

Please join us for the reception and artist talk on Tuesday, September 17th, from 4:30pm - 6pm in the Union Grove Gallery. Talk starts at 4:30pm.

Exhibition on view through October 17th.
