Offered through Osher Lifelong Learning Institute

Few literary or movie monsters can rival the nameless creature in Frankenstein. Mary Shelley’s iconic 1818 novel has inspired countless adaptations, revisions, and updates, from the brilliant to the absurd. We’ll look at the history of the novel and the special problems of adapting this science fiction classic for the big screen. Class discussions will include the Universal series of Frankenstein films, the Hammer series, parodies like Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein (1974) and even cult favorites like The Monster Squad (1987), Frankenweenie (1984 and 2012), and The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975). (This course will also be recorded.)
