Meet Toni, Maya, Zora, Alice, Phyllis, Sojourner, and many others. Some of these women have earned a place in our national literary and cultural consciousness. Others may be known in small circles or have barely received attention. All are important. Through lectures, video clips and some class discussion you will be introduced to almost fifty authors from the 1700’s to the present: their lives, their work, and their influence on their communities as well as the larger world. A limited book list is provided. Reading is not mandatory but is encouraged.
