Welcome to Rotorcraft Systems Engineering & Simulation Center

RSESC is a multifaceted research center focused on applied research and on systems engineering techniques to enhance success for government, industry, commercial, and small business partners. Our expertise in the area of Autonomous Aerospace Research (A2R) reinforces proven, unparalleled capabilities in Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS), Vertical Lift, Systems Interoperability, Systems Engineering & Integration, and uSOURCE (Student Support Staffing Programs).

Our Center is a member of the Federal Aviation Administration’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems Center of Excellence, supporting the integration of UAS into the National Airspace System while collaborating with the Department of Defense on robotic threats and counter-autonomous solutions.

Our multi-disciplined team has decades of hardware and software experience, including analysis, design, prototyping, fabrication, modeling, simulation, testing, and integration of complex engineered systems deployed in the air, space, ground, and water.  We excel with projects from concept, through design, verification, prototyping, integration, deployment, retrofitting, and obsolescence/disposal.  We are dedicated to excellence in developing tomorrow’s aerospace and autonomous engineering solutions today!

The Huntsville UAS and C-UAS Test Range addresses all aspects of solving and protecting the US, including policy development, regulations development, economics, analysis, workforce development, research, integration, and testing of UAS and Counter UAS systems, including Detection, Tracking, and Identification and Mitigation (DTIM) Systems. Schedule time at the range here.

In 2022, the Huntsville Madison County Airport Authority (HMCAA), supported by UAH, discussed UAS (Uncrewed Aerial System) and Counter UAS (C-UAS) testing with Congress. The primary focus was on the development of a UAS and C-UAS Center of Excellence (CoE) in Huntsville, Alabama, on airport-owned property. This CoE included a Critical Urban Operating Area (CUOA) for the purpose of assessing UAS and C-UAS detection, identification, and mitigation technologies supporting DoD and DoJ local to Huntsville and supporting local emerging industry around Alabama and across the United States.

Mission

Conducting research on behalf of the aerospace community in Huntsville and in the nation, focusing on advanced solutions, systems engineering, systems integration, and simulations.

Student Opportunities

We value our students. Our Center manages uSOURCE, a program that connects local employers with part-time student staffing. Qualified undergraduate and graduate students work alongside researchers and engineers to gain real-world experience while reinforcing their academic studies.
